The heat pump: heating and cooling at 400%!

Take a bicycle pump and press your thumb over the opening: the compressed air heats up. That’s how a heat pump works: it takes cold air from outside, compresses it by pumping and the heat produced is fed into the underfloor heating or boiler.

The heat pump in your Litobox^® has an SPF (Seasonal Performance Factor) of more than 4.This means that the pump delivers four times as much heat as the electricity it consumes annually.

The heat pump doesn’t need a flue either: all of the heat produced is used for the heating and sanitary hot water.

Another advantage of the heat pump is that the process can be reversed: so your home can be cooled efficiently in summer with no extra equipment.

Multi-energy buffer tank: a treasure trove of convenience!

The buffer tank is a real treasure trove of convenience. A buffer tank means you can ‘harvest’ your energy when it’s cheapest: the solar collectors provide heat during the day when the sun is shining and, thanks to its smart controls, the heat pump can deliver heat to the buffer when electricity is cheapest.

You can use this heat both for hot water and for heating.

Good insulation is important for a buffer. The Lito hygienic buffer storage tank has a 100mm thick polyester fleece insulation jacket: that’s 50 fleeces on top of one another!

A Lito hygienic buffer storage tank delivers up to 40 litres of hot water per minute. Up to four bathrooms in your house can be used at the same time with no problem. You’re also sure of fresh, clean water: the tap water flows through a special corrugated stainless steel heat exchanger: maintenance free, self-cleaning and legionella free.

Solar boiler: a five-month summer holiday!

The solar boiler is currently the most underestimated technology: no other technology is more efficient.

With just two TiSUN collectors, you get a yield of around 2,500kWh per year! The pump and controls combined use just 20 Watts and operate around 1,200 hours per year in Belgium.

This means that consumption is 24kWh per year, or a cost of less than €7! That’s less than one percent of the energy delivered! Paradoxically, the heat pump benefits most from your solar boiler: it doesn’t need to start up at all for five months of the year. This considerably increases the lifespan of your heat pump.

Battery storage: a power cut, here? Unheard of!

To be honest: our national grid is very reliable. Outages are the exception rather than the rule. But power cuts are still inconvenient: the house is full of electrical appliances that get upset when the power goes off, even for a short time. With a Studer battery storage system, your outage never lasts longer than 15 milliseconds.

The electrical cabinet in a modern home cannot be compared to one from several years ago. Heat pumps, solar panels, battery pack, emergency power supply, ventilation unit, internet communication,... were all unheard of then. In the Litobox^® all of these technologies are already perfectly connected and labelled in the well-organised electrical cabinet.

The other fuses for lighting circuits, sockets and other electrical loads are already fully installed and labelled. This saves lots of time and effort and prevents mistakes on site!

Ventilation: the lungs of your home

A good ventilation system is one you don’t notice: silent and unobtrusive!

Air quality in Belgium is poor due to our industry, dense road network and (sometimes) harmful burning of wood in old stoves. It’s better not to draw this air into your home through vents or open windows. In the Litobox^® there’s a ventilation unit that filters all incoming air. So every room in the house receives constantly filtered air.

The ventilation unit in the Litobox^® is equipped with free cooling and free heating as standard: after a hot summer’s day, the unit draws in extra cool air and cools the home down, for free. Conversely, the unit will also draw in heat for free if it rapidly gets hotter outside and the house is still too cool.

Rainwater filtration: sometimes the solution literally falls from the sky!

Belgium has high quality drinking water. Some of it is pumped up from great depths and extra filtered, some of it is collected from surface water and has to be treated multiple times before use. Then it travels a long way through closely monitored systems of pipes and water towers. Our water network is actually a big, long, ingenious work of art. Drinking water is a luxury that’s delivered to our homes for less than half a cent per litre.

Every Belgian uses around 100 litres of water a day, half of this in just a matter of seconds: to flush the toilet... Despite this, it’s still perfectly possible to halve your drinking water consumption. By supplying several taps in your home with safe, clean, filtered rainwater. For example, the toilets, washing machine and outside tap.

Shower heat recovery unit(SHRU): don’t let the energy slip through your fingers!

For a comfortable shower, cold water from the mains needs to be heated up from 10°C to around 40°C. In the shower, this wonderful hot water is used for two seconds and then flows down the drain at about 35°C... A waste of energy and money.

The shower heat recovery unit (SHRU) uses this residual heat to pre-heat the cold mains water. So just a little more hot water needs to be added. This very simple intervention leads to much greater convenience and extra energy savings!

Insulation: we have it covered!

When developing the Litobox^® particular attention is paid to the insulation of all components and pipes. In old heating systems, uninsulated pipes increased consumption by 10%. Because today’s homes need five times less energy, in a modern home, the same uninsulated pipes could account for up to half(!) of the energy consumption.

Insulation in the equipment cabinet is often put off or overlooked because it’s time-consuming and tricky. A Litobox^® won’t be delivered without all components being perfectly insulated!

Quick Heat circuit: a place in the sun!

We all enjoy a fine, sunny day in late summer or autumn. But, when evening comes, it soon gets cooler and it’s too late for the underfloor heating to deliver heat quickly.

For this reason, every Litobox^® comes equipped with a Quick Heat circuit as standard: this boosts the underfloor heating in the bathroom, study or lounge and can deliver heat quickly without having to heat up the whole house first.

In addition, the Quick Heat circuit uses the solar energy from the buffer tank first before turning on the heat pump. So you carry on enjoying the sun even after it’s set!
